About the Dean

Dr. Joan Ficke‌ Dr. Joan C. Ficke assumed the Deanship for The Graduate School after serving for thirteen years in the Office of the Provost, most recently as Senior Vice Provost. She holds her graduate degrees from New York University, at the master's level in School Health Education and at the doctoral level in Community Health.

During her tenure in the Provost's Office, Ficke supervised the then Office of Graduate Admissions and Support Services twice during transitional periods, and subsequently became the Dean of the Graduate School as it reassumed its prior configuration as a graduate school, one of the six colleges and schools at Montclair State University.

Ficke has had several administrative positions including as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for Personnel and Resource Planning, Interim Dean of Students, and Director of the Women's Center. She is a Professor of Community Health, joining the Montclair State faculty in 1977, and her disciplinary interests are in health policy, the organization of health care facilities, health counseling and women's health issues.

Ficke has completed work at Wellesley College Management Training for Women; in Clinical Training in Behavioral Medicine at Harvard Medical School; was a Visiting Faculty Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School for Public Policy at Princeton University; and served as the Executive Director for the New Jersey Business Group on Health.
