English as a Second Language (Combined Bachelor’s / Master of Arts in Teaching)

The Bachelor’s/MAT Dual-Certification Inclusive Education Program provides students with the opportunity to receive both a bachelor’s and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree with teacher certification in both general education and special education. The program is designed to help teachers develop competencies needed to teach students who have disabilities along with those who do not.

In this program, students complete general education and major requirements and an initial set of coursework in education as undergraduates. As graduate students, they will complete the coursework in education and conduct their fieldwork and student teaching.

Admission Requirements

The Master of Arts in Teaching portion of this combined program is only open to undergraduate students at Montclair State University who are finishing up the bachelor’s portion of the combined program.

Application Checklist

In order to make applying for graduate school as seamless as possible for you, we have
created an application checklist. This checklist can be a reference point for you during the
application process to ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the steps
needed to apply, as well as all corresponding supplemental materials for your specific
program of interest.

  • Application Deadline: Rolling Admission.
  • Submit Online Application: Please create your online account and submit your application by following the general application instructions and pay (or waive) the non-refundable $60 application fee. Once this step has been completed, the online portal will allow you to upload your supplemental materials.

The following is a list of the supplemental materials that will accompany your application for the Combined Bachelor’s / Master of Arts in Teaching program in English as a Second Language:

  • Transcript: One from each college attended.
