Master of Arts in Reading1. What is the difference between the Reading Specialist and the MA program? The thirty (30) credit Reading Specialist program is based upon the guidelines established by the state of New Jersey and the International Reading Association. If you have an initial certification as a teacher, and a Master's Degree in another field, the Reading Specialist program is probably the appropriate program for you. The thirty-three (33) credit Reading MA program is also based upon the guidelines established by the state of New Jersey and the International Reading Association. It however, has a research component which accounts for the additional credits. 2. Do I need to have teaching certification to enroll in the Reading MA program? If you plan to teach in a public school upon completion of your degree, you need to have an initial certification as a teacher. If, however, you do not plan to teach in a public school, you do not need the teaching certification. Our graduates often work as literacy educators with adults in non-traditional settings, or in publishing where the Reading MA is required. TO APPLY TO THIS PROGRAM, PLEASE VISIT |
