Master of Arts in Theatre

The Master of Arts in Theatre program is designed to enhance the student's existing skills in theatre or to develop skills acquired from related or ancillary backgrounds. The program is structured to emphasize both theoretical and practical approaches to theatre as well as allow for original research and creative projects.

Concentrations are available in Arts Management, Production/Stage Management, and Theatre Studies. Theatre Studies is ideal for those seeking a generalized knowledge of theatre or who are planning to continue with doctoral studies, while Production/Stage Management is more practice-oriented, preparing students for behind-the-scenes careers in stage or production management. For those interested in the organizational and business aspects of running an arts-related organization, Arts Management is the ideal choice, where one can take courses in the College of the Arts, as well as in the School of Business and Department of Law and Governance. Regardless of the concentration, students will experience course sequences and content designed to strengthen research, performance and production. including the literature and history of the discipline. Graduates leave the program with the academic and professional skills necessary to become practitioners of the selected concentration. Offering maximum flexibility, all programs may be pursued full- or part-time.

The Master of Arts in Theatre is a program offered by the College of the Arts. Further information on the concentrations, faculty, facilities and student productions may be found on web pages for the Graduate Program in Theatre on the Department of Theatre & Dance website.
