Master of Arts in Teaching Middle Grades Mathematics

ADMISSIONS

To be admitted to the master's in Teaching Middle Grades Mathematics the applicant must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with an equivalent GPA that meets the requirements for admission to graduate study at the university and a New Jersey teaching certificate. The baccalaureate degree and teaching certificate cannot be in mathematics or a closely related field. A recommendation from the applicant's supervisor is required. Applicants are expected to achieve a satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination. Candidates who successfully complete the Certificate in Teaching Middle Grades Mathematics and who are accepted into this program may transfer the certificate courses to this program of study. Students who complete the certificate with a GPA of 3.2 or better will be eligible for admission to this master's and will have the requirement of taking the Graduate Record Exam waived.

A candidate for the master's in Teaching Middle Grades Mathematics must consult with the department's graduate coordinator since the choice of graduate courses is dependent upon the candidate's undergraduate preparation and previous post-baccalaureate courses. Based on this consultation, the graduate coordinator will prepare a work program listing the course requirements for the candidate.

DEADLINES

Applications may be submitted at any time of the year and are accepted on a rolling admissions basis; however, the Office of Graduate Admissions & Support Services recommends that prospective students submit their credentials as far in advance as possible from the semester they plan to begin to ensure a timely review of their application.
