Meet Our Staff

Marie Cascarano, EdD, CHES, Director, Health Promotion
Marie received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. There she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and art. She went on to receive a master’s degree and doctoral degree from Columbia University - Teachers College in Health Education.

Marie has worked for several non-profit organizations including National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence of Hudson County, Planned Parenthood of Greater Northern New Jersey and Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey. Marie has facilitated workshops addressing Body Image, Healthy Relationships, Alcohol Awareness, Communication skills, Leadership skills, Diversity and many other health issues.

 

Tanya Purdy, BA, Program Assistant, Health Promotion at the Drop In Center
Tanya received a BA in Political Science from Montclair State University in 2004. She is currently seeking her Masters in Public Health from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She worked for Health Promotion as a peer educator while attending Montclair State University. She also intenred in the Reproductive Rights lobbying program for the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association in Washington DC in 2002, as well as volunteering for Planned Parenthood as a campus coordinator from 2001-2004. Now as the program assistant for the new Peer Advocacy program at the Drop In Center, she empowers students to create consciousness-raising campaigns on various health issues such as tobacco and alcohol use, reproductive rights, healthy eating, and GLBT awareness for the entire campus comunity.
