Student Athletic Trainer Selection

Student Athletic Trainer professionalism is of vital importance to the operation of the athletic training room and the delivery of athletic health care to MSU athletes. Communication amongst the staff allows everyone to work at the utmost potential. Communication among student athletic trainers with certified staff and with coaches is very important. A student athletic trainer must display emotional control and consistency. Student appearance must be clean and appropriate. Students must dress appropriately for practices, home or away contests, or indoor/outdoor events. Students must be reliable, on-time, conscientious about record keeping, and follow through with assignments. Honesty, Integrity, and Self-Discipline are other traits found in athletic trainers.

You will be expected to live up to a high standard as a student athletic trainer. You must continue to maintain a good GPA and pay attention to your professional appearance. Not every student athletic trainer will be a HPPERLS major. Not every student will go on to take the NATABOC Certification Exam. John Davis, MSU's Head Athletic Trainer, has sole responsibility for the selection of student athletic trainers. There are no HPPERLS/Athletic department guidelines that govern the selection. It is simply a matter of a given student meeting the initial above criteria and living up to the ideals of the Athletic Training Profession.

Student athletic trainers will be selected on the following criteria: an interest in athletic training, grade point average, availability during team schedules, reliability, compassion, dependability, and self discipline. All are important traits of athletic trainers.
