"Quadrabox" selected for Kennedy Center performance
Lori Katterhenry of Dance and Theatre and 14 dance majors attended the Northeast Regional American College Dance Festival at Muhlenberg College from March 6 to 10. In addition to taking master classes and attending lectures and performances, the dancers presented two choreographic works for adjudication by a panel of dance professionals.

"Prism," choreographed by junior dance major Omni Kitts, and "Quadrabox," choreographed by guest artists Robert Benford and Martha Partridge, received favorable feedback and critiques from the panel. "Quadrabox" was selected for the prestigious closing night gala performance, and was one of four pieces selected to represent the Northeast Region at the National American College Dance Festival (ACDF) at the Kennedy Center in May. The dancers also participated in a non-adjudicated concert and presented faculty member Isabel Gotzkowky's "Excerpts from Glimpses of Bonding."

Twenty-eight colleges and universities were represented at the four-day festival where 44 pieces were adjudicated.

Three to four dances are selected at each of the nine regional festivals to represent the best and most interesting at the National American College Dance Festival, which will present approximately 30 works from colleges and universities across the United States. The National ACDF is held every other year. Montclair State University has been selected for five of the 10 national festivals held to date.

"Quadrabox," "Prism" and "Excerpts from Glimpses of Bonding" will be presented at DanceWorks 2002 from April 25-28 in Memorial Auditorium. The concert will feature works by Nancy Lushington, Maxine Steiman, Maureen Glennon, Robert Benford, Martha Partridge, Lori Katterhenry, Sebastian Smeureanu and Donna Scro-Gentile. Thanks to a $10,000 grant from the National College Choreography Initiative, secured by Lindsay Gambini of Great Events, the dancers also will present Sean Curran's "Metal Garden."

Borrow books from virtual library
Faculty (including adjuncts) and staff (including part-time and blanket employees) can borrow materials from libraries participating in VALE (Virtual Academic Library Environment), a consortium of New Jersey academic libraries. Participants in the VALE Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing Program include the libraries of the Rutgers University system, the UMDNJ system, Seton Hall University, and the New Jersey State Library. A complete list of participating libraries is available on the VALE Web site at http://www.valenj.org/vale/recbor/recbor.html.

To apply for onsite borrowing privileges at any of the participating VALE libraries, faculty and staff must now obtain an authorized VALE Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing Application Form from the Circulation Department at Sprague Library. A separate authorized form must be obtained to borrow materials from each participating library. After presenting the form and a photo identification at the Circulation Department of a participating library, a guest borrower card, valid for one academic year expiring on June 30, will be issued. Borrowing privileges are subject to the circulation policies of the lending institution. Borrowed materials must be returned directly to the lending library.

Alumna to head NJ Higher Ed Student Assistance Authority
Montclair State alumna Elizabeth Wong '85, a private business owner and former chair of the New Jersey Development Authority for Small Businesses, Minorities' and Women's Enterprises, has been named executive director of the state's Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) by Gov. James E. McGreevey.

As the administrative agency overseeing the state's student financial assistance programs, HESAA is dedicated to promoting and improving higher learning opportunities in New Jersey. Wong will direct the state's college savings plan, state grant and scholarship programs, and state and federal student loan programs.

"Elizabeth is an energetic, personable leader with a proven record in growing businesses," McGreevey said. "Her management expertise and strong background in public relations make her the ideal person to lead an agency that provides nearly a billion dollars in financial aid annually and serves hundreds of thousands of students and families each year."

McGreevey has charged Wong with continuing HESAA's program growth and increasing public awareness of the agency’s resources to help students pay for college.

"As a graduate of a New Jersey college, I look forward to this opportunity to serve the postsecondary needs of our students. By supporting educational attainment through financial assistance, HESAA will directly contribute to the governor's efforts to build an informed, productive and diverse citizenry," Wong said.
