Mary Ann
Craig of Music (pictured at right) recently was named Honorary Professor
of Moscow State University of Culture and Arts, making her the first foreign
person to receive the honor in the university's 70-year history. The honor
was bestowed on her by University Rector Tantiana Grigoriovna at a ceremony
on March 17 during a concert at which Craig was the guest conductor. All
the deans of the university were in attendance along with Viktor Afanasyev,
recently retired general in charge of Russian Military Bands. Craig was
honored for her contribution to the performance and development of concert
bands throughout Russia.
Seddik Meziani of Economics and Finance presented his paper, "Re-evaluating
Portfolio Diversification Benefits with New Multinational Indices,"
at the Applied Business Research Conference in Mexico. The paper was granted
the Best Paper Award certificate.
Nashwa George of Accounting, Law and Taxation had an article, "Expensing
Stock Options or Not: Does it Matter?" in the January CPA Journal.
Michael Kruge of Mathematics and Science presented a program about
dinosaurs to second graders at School 15 in Clifton. The presentation,
which included discussion about different types of dinosaurs and why they
became extinct, was part of Montclair State's Visiting Professors Program.
Keely McCool of Information Technology received an Artist Fellowship
Award of $7,300 from the New Jersey Council on the Arts. The fellowships
are awarded to professional New Jersey artists to enable them to pursue
their artistic goals. The awards are based solely upon demonstrated artistic
excellence.
David Nichols of Political Science had an article, "Ravelstein:
Introduction," published in the Jan. 1 Perspectives on Political
Science.
Teresa Rodriguez of the Art Galleries received $3,870 from the
Essex County Local Arts Grant Program for "Earth, Sand and Water:
The Garden State as Art Material," site specific installation exhibition
of three New Jersey artists who use natural elements in their work. The
project will include a workshop, "Art From Your Backyard," for
school children.
