Huan Feng of Earth and Environmental Studies received $35,000 from the National Science Foundation for Montclair State's participation in the International Conference on Urban Dimensions of Environmental Change held in Shanghai, China, where Chinese and American scholars will present and discuss current research on urban environmental change.

Mark Kaelin of Health Professions, Physical Education, Recreation and Leisure Studies received a three-year, $955,232, Science Education Partnership Award from the National Institutes of Health to disseminate Detectives in the Classroom, a curriculum that explores health-related issues relevant to middle school students through the science of epidemiology. Susana Sotillo of Linguistics and Patty Kahn of Information Technology presented two workshops, "Constructivist and Collaborative Learning in a Wireless Environment" and "Using Instant Messengers and Webcams in ESL Instruction," at the New Jersey Statewide Higher Education ESL Conference on Oct. 25.
