University to offer state's first B.S. in athletic training
When an injured athlete returns to the playing field, the fans applaud and the athlete raises a hand in acknowledgement. But there is a team of people on the sidelines whose knowledge and training made the comeback possible—the athletic trainers. Montclair State is on its way to offering a bachelor of science degree program in athletic training beginning next fall. It will be the first B.S. program in athletic training in New Jersey. Two students win Freeman-Asia Scholarships to study abroad
Two Montclair State students have been chosen to receive Freeman-Asia Scholarships to study abroad next semester. Senior Luis Rosado, a history major/pre-law minor, will study at Kansai-Gaidai University in Japan, and Jason Strother, a broadcasting major, with minors in philosophy and international studies, will study at Yonsei University in South Korea. Allyn examines impact computers have on gender wage gap
The gender wage gap between men and women has decreased but not diminished, with women making about 75 cents to every dollar men make, according to Mark Allyn of Management who was the speaker at a recent Brown Bag Lecture sponsored by the School of Business.(Full Story and Photo)

Red Hawks fall in first round of NCAA playoffs
The football team suffered its second straight loss and second consecutive NCAA opening round defeat as Ithaca College knocked off the Red Hawks, 35-23, in the first round action of the 2001 Division III playoffs at Sprague Field before a crowd of 3,693 on Saturday. The appearance in the playoffs was the seventh for Montclair State, which finished its regular season at 9-1. (Full Story)

CAPS offers tips on dealing with stress during challenging times
The crash of Flight 587 on Nov. 12 may have rekindled feelings of fear and stress related concerns in members of our university community. Counseling and Psychological Services recently offered tips to the campus community on how to deal with stress and anxiety. (Full Story.)
