Nicole Cooke of Sprague Library, recently had an article published, "The Role of Libraries in Web-Based-Distance Education: An Account and an Analysis of the Impact of Web Technology on Distance Learning--What Remains Unchanged, What is Changing?" in the Journal of Library & Information Services in Distance Learning. Cooke is pursuing a second master's degree in adult education, via distance learning, with Penn State University.

Jess Row of English had his novel, The Train to Lo Wu: Stories, published by Dial Press. The book is made up of seven short stories about Hong Kong people by a young American writer.

David Harris Ebenbach of English won the 2005 Drue Heinz Prize for Literature, which carries a cash award and a publication contract from the University of Pittsburgh Press. His manuscript, "Between Camelots," was chosen from among 300 submissions by Stewart O'Nan, a fiction writer and former Heinz Award winner. The Drue Heinz Prize was endowed by the widow of H.J. Heinz II, of the Heinz food company.

Randall FitzGerald, of the New Jersey School of Conservation had his photography works on display at the Flying Pig Gallery in Sussex Borough. FitzGerald's collection includes a variety of images from a recent trip to Nova Scotia: rustic fishing villages, towering lighthouses and rugged landscapes. Suxiao Hu of Sprague Library recently returned from a sabbatical leave in China. Hu's translation into Chinese of Saul Bellow's novel, Ravelstein, (which included her introduction to the book) was published by Yilin Press, a major publisher in China, in November. In addition, Hu finished the translation of a second book, The Great Fire, by Shirley Hazzard, which will be published by Yilin Press later this year. Hu also made a presentation on library management and technology to the library staff at Nanjing Finance and Economics University and compiled a resource guide to the Nobel Prize in Literature, which highlights a variety of English-language reference sources available in Sprague Library.
