A 'slam dunk' holiday gift idea
The Alumni Association and the New Jersey Nets have teamed up to provide a 33-percent discount on tickets to two upcoming games for faculty, staff, students and alumni. A perfect holiday gift for the basketball fan in your family, the discount applies to tickets purchased for the Dec. 30 game against the Indiana Pacers and the April 7 game against the New York Knicks.

Both games begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford. Tickets to the Dec. 30 game must be purchased by Dec. 22. Tickets to the April 7 game must be purchased by March 31.

And for the art lover you know...
In search of a gift for the person who has everything? Check out Art Market at the University Gallery through Dec. 18. More than 150 paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculpture, collage and mixed media works are available at prices starting at $100. Proceeds will benefit art education and the Alumni Association.

The Art Gallery Gift Shop also has great gifts for the holidays, including exquisite fine art and craft items made by national and international artists; jewelry, including necklaces by Louise Davies; notecards; weavings; prints; and ceramics.

Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m.-4 p.m. For a private viewing and informal talk about collecting, call the gallery at 973-655-5113/7640. Admission to the Gallery, located in Life Hall, is free.

 

Tickets available for 'The Nutcracker'
Student Activities is sponsoring a bus trip to the New York City Ballet's "The Nutcracker" on Dec. 9 at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center. Tickets are $45 for students and $56 for faculty, staff and guest. The bus will leave at 4 p.m. from behind the Student Center for the 6 p.m. show. Seats are located in the third ring of the theater. Tickets can be purchased at the Office of Student Activities.

 

Faculty, staff invited to submit photos for competition
It's time to go through your favorite travel photos for the fourth annual Global Images Competition and Exhibition sponsored by the Global Education Center and the Art Galleries.

An exhibition of selected photographs will be in Gallery One from March 3-25. Submissions will be accepted from Jan. 24 until 4 p.m. Jan. 27. Photographs can be in black and white or in color, and must be new submissions, not previously entered into the 2004 or 2003 competition.

Although the theme is international travel photography, there are no limitations on the subject matter. Collages will not be accepted. Entries must have been photographed by a Montclair State faculty or staff member. Individuals can submit up to five photographs.

Submissions must be no smaller than 8 by 10 inches and no larger than 11 by 17 inches and must be matted with white mat board with a 1 1/2- to 2-inch border on all sides. Each entry must have a label attached on the reverse top right side bearing the photographer's name, title of the work, place it was taken (city, country) and the date of the picture.

Participants are responsible for delivery and pickup of the work. All entries will be judged by three experts in the field on the basis of quality and content. Judging will take place the end of January, with winners announced in February.

 

Dining Services offers meal plans for faculty, staff
Dining Services is offering two meal plans for faculty and staff--15 blocks with $50 Flex Dollars for $125 or $57.50 of Flex Dollars for $50.

The 15-block plan may be paid for through payroll deduction (four pay periods at $31.25 each.) Flex Dollars can be used any time at any dining facility except the Red Hawk truck. Blocks can be used at the Blanton and Freeman dining halls (one swipe equals one meal) or at the Student Center Café, Rathskeller and Red Hawk Diner, where one swipe equals $3.80. Swipes can be used during meal equivalency hours only, which are as follows:

Student Center Café
: Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Rathskeller:
Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Red Hawk Diner:
Monday-Sunday, 11 p.m.-8 a.m.
