Schedule of Events

January 12 through January 20, 2004

Welcome!

Important: All new international students are expected to arrive no later than January 12, 2004.  All international students are required to attend the International Student Orientation meeting on January 16, 2004.  Please read the following schedule carefully and make careful note of the dates and activities you are required to attend. Plan to arrive on campus in time to attend these events. You may not have to attend all activities. For additional helpful information, visit our website: www.montclair.edu/International

Monday, January 12

 

 

Arrival Date for all new international students.

The Village at Little Falls and Russ Residence Hall are open to students who have been assigned a room.  Contact Residence Life Office for information about applying for The Village at Little Falls or Russ Hall. Tuesday, January 13

 

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

 

General New Student Orientation offered by the Office of New Student Experience.

Location - Student Center Ballrooms

Wednesday, January 14

9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

 

 

Montclair State University Placement Test (MSUPT) for all undergraduate students with 26 or fewer credits. Location - Morehead Hall 139.  This exam is also offered at various times throughout the fall.  Contact the Office of Academic Needs Assessment (973) 655-4476 to schedule an earlier date if you are currently in the U.S.   

   

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

 

 

 

English as a Second Language Exam. All international students whose native language is not English are expected to take this exam.

Location - Brantl Lecture Hall in Dickson Hall.

This exam is also offered throughout the Fall. Contact the Linguistics Department at (973) 655-7695 to schedule the exam at an earlier date if you are currently in the U.S.

Thursday, January 15  

 

Individual Academic Advising is available on this day to all students who have not previously registered earlier in the summer.  All new  students must meet with their advisor before registering for classes.   Your advising location depends on your status.  Read the following carefully to determine where you should seek academic advising.

1:00 - 4:00 PM

 

Academic Advising for Undergraduate freshmen who have NOT declared their majors  
Location – Morehead Hall 101.
Contact the Office of New Student Experience at (973) 655-7609 to schedule an earlier date if you are currently in the U.S.

1:00 - 4:00 PM

 

Academic Advising for ALL transfer students  
Location - Morehead Hall 132.  If you are currently in the local area, we strongly recommend that you contact Academic Advising (973) 655-7068 as soon as possible to meet  with your advisor and register for classes.

2:00 - 6:00 PM

 

 

Academic Advising for Freshman who have declared their majors and all Graduate students with your faculty advisor in your major department.
 Location - The office of your faculty advisor. See list of faculty advisors and phone numbers If you are currently in the local area, we strongly recommend that you contact your faculty advisor as soon as possible to meet at an earlier time with your advisor and register for classes.

Graduate Students: We strongly recommend that you contact your faculty advisor and set up an appointment before leaving your home country.

Friday, January 16

IMPORTANT! -  Don't miss this!

Orientation Meeting for International Students - REQUIRED
Location - Kops Lounge, Russ Hall
Lunch will be provided

Saturday, January 17 and Sunday, January 18

Days off. Time to rest, get settled, or visit the local community. Local Bus Schedules and maps available in the OIS.

Monday, January 19

Martin Luther King Holiday - University Offices will be closed.

Tuesday, January 20

Classes begin. Consult your Bursar's receipt or the Schedule of Classes for your class time and location.
