Journal Indexes w/ Citation Information

These indexes that are not primarily citation indexes, but do track where articles are cited.

  1. Biomedical Reference Collection:
    This database provides nearly 900 full text journals, including nearly 850 peer-reviewed publications, covering virtually all areas of medical study.
  2. BioOne:
    An index to about 65 journals in the biological, ecological, and environmental sciences. Many of the articles are in full text, and it does track citation information for the articles it indexes.
  3. Business Source Premier:
    Full text of over 8,000 scholarly journals and other sources in all subject areas related to business.
  4. CINAHL:
    Provides indexing for 1,835 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health dating back to 1982.
  5. Computer Science Index:
    This index covers the contents of over 6,500 periodicals and books, with coverage going back to the mid 1960s. To search citations click on the Cited References button in the green toolbar.
  6. EBSCO Academic Search Premier:
    A general index covering the contents of about 3,600 publications.

  7. Nursing & Allied Health Collection:
    This database contains the full text for nearly 400 journals covering the areas of nursing, biomedicine, health sciences, consumer health and allied health disciplines. Most of its contents are indexed in CINAHL.
  8. PsycINFO:
    The citation information is by no means available for all of the contents of the index. However it allows searching of citations in two ways. Cited References and also from the full record screen "Times Cited in this Database."
  9. PubMed:
    Citation tracking for PubMed is included in SCOPUS.
  10. Science Direct:
    After running a search click on either SummaryPlus or FullText+Links. To the right of the citation that appears there will be a link labeled Cited by. Click on Cited by to see if any other articles within ScienceDirect have cited that particular article.
  11. Sociological Abstracts:
    References are listed for some, but not all of the articles indexed. Many of the references listed have citation tracking information, but the articles themselves do not. This seems to be an unusual arrangement.

These indexes include lists of references for the articles indexed.
However, they do not track where the articles are cited.

  1. ABI/Inform:
    Search the full text of articles from 1000+ business and management journals.
  2. ACM Digital Library:
    The Association for Computing Machinery publishes this collection of collection of citations and full text from ACM journal and newsletter articles and conference proceedings. Much of it is in full text.
  3. Grove Music Online:
    Article references are included.
  4. International Index to Music Periodicals:
    Article references are included and can be searched with the keyword search function.
  5. JSTOR:
    An interdisciplinary index containing the full text of nearly complete runs of over 400 publications.

  6. NetLibrary:
    A collection of about 4000 books. The full text of the books can be searched. An account for NetLibrary can be set up for free from any computer on MSU's campus by clicking on the link in the top right corner of the NetLibrary home page This account will be necessary for accessing NetLibrary from off campus.
  7. Project MUSE:
    References can be searched using the keyword function.
