Political Fireworks Light Up the Night

Sparks flew at the Alexander Kasser Theater on the evening of October 15 as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and State Senator Barbara Buono went head-to-head in their final gubernatorial debate before the election.

During their last chance to impress voters, the candidates didn’t hold back, making for a much livelier encounter than the first debate. For 90 minutes, the two clashed on variety of topics from marriage equality to gun control to climate change.

Mike Schneider, managing editor and anchor of NJTV’s NJ Today, moderated the debate and the panel featured Montclair State University Professor of Political Science and Law Brigid Harrison; NBC News correspondent Ron Allen; NJTV’s chief political correspondent and public affairs series host, Michael Aron; and The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Matt Katz.

NJTV broadcast the debate live statewide and it was simulcast in Spanish and streamed live on the University’s and NJTV’s websites. WMSC-FM also carried the debate live and aired a student roundtable discussion before and after the event.
