Center for Writing Excellence receives grant

The Center for Writing Excellence (CWE) has just received a grant for $10,780 from the Wallerstein Foundation in support of the CWE Seminar for Lifelong Learners.  This past year, the CWE shared Montclair State University’s common reading experience of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks with a diverse group of senior citizens, who read and discussed the book in workshops (facilitated by our staff) and then produced their own original writing.  The project culminated in a visit to campus for the Montclair Book 2012 keynote presentation by David Lacks on September 27.

Participants in the seminar were very grateful, we were told, to be "academically and emotionally engaged and intellectually stimulated,” thereby fulfilling some of our objectives for this pilot program. The funding from the Wallerstein Foundation will enable the CWE Seminar for Lifelong Learners to continue for a second year.
