The Montclair State women's basketball team's magical season ended in Indiana on Friday, when the Red Hawks lost to Christopher Newport University 83-70. It was the first time in decades that a Montclair women’s basketball team made it to the Sweet Sixteen and its first undefeated regular season.
The Red Hawks set program records for wins in a season and its 29 wins is now the longest winning streak in Montclair State athletic history surpassing the previous mark of 26 by the softball team in 2008.
"It's always disappointing to have your season end," coach Harvey told The Daily Press of Hampton Roads Virginia after the game. "But I'm not sure how we could be disappointed. We are 29-1 and this team has done everything that I've asked them to do all year long and so much more."
