The Department of Campus Recreation, a sub division of SDCL, is proud to announce two awards bestowed upon their Marketing Department: The NIRSA Creative Excellence Award in the category of Sustainable Marketing, and The NJRPA Agency Showcase Award in the category of Video/Audio/Electronic Media.
The National Intramural and Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA) presented the Creative Excellence Award to the department on March 5th, 2013 at their national conference in Las Vegas, NV. This honor was given in response to The Online Calendar of Events, a paperless calendar that was created and designed by students Andrew Wiese and Joshua Kilian-Meneghin. Andrew is a Computer Science major (CSAM) in his final semester on campus, and Josh is a Physics major (CSAM) in his sophomore year. Both students work as web developers for the Department of Campus Recreation and work tirelessly to improve the department's online presence.
The calendar was awarded for its simplicity, navigability, and overall design. It showcases all of the events and programs that Campus Recreation holds throughout the year, and can be updated effortlessly. Each event has its own event page and can be added to your personal Google calendar or viewed via Facebook. Users can view this information on Campus Recreation's website at http://www.montclair.edu/campus-recreation/calendar where they can navigate the calendar by month, or by area within the department.
The New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association (NJRPA) presented their Agency Showcase Award to Robert Woods on March 5, 2013 in Atlantic City, NJ for his Intramural Sports Promo video. Rob is a freshman Filmmaking major (CART) and is the Department of Campus Recreation's sole videographer. This awarded video not only captures its viewers through its use of action clips that were strung together beautifully, but also informs the viewer about how to sign up for intramurals, while letting them know that any student is welcome play. This video does a fantastic job in engaging its audience and getting people excited about intramural sports. It can be viewed via YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4gTCyXbLgs.
Projects that have been awarded are merely a fraction of the work that Campus Recreation’s Marketing Department puts forth each year. The Marketing Department is comprised solely of students who hold a variety of skills ranging from graphic design, video production, photography, web development, and social media. These students work under two senior student supervisors, Hannah Lindeblad and Kevin Rippon, and together as a collective unit have produced some outstanding work.
Both NIRSA and NJRPA are nationally accredited organizations in the field of recreation, and it is an honor to have received not one, but two awards this year. These awards not only reflect positively on The Department of Campus Recreation and their Marketing Department; they reflect positively on Montclair State University as a whole. The projects that won these awards were created and designed by students who are involved and committed to the University and the departments they are a part of. These individuals should be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the campus community and their respective specializations.
