This Fall, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Center at Montclair State University will be launching a brand new queer educator program called Lavender Leaders. This team of highly developed peer educators will represent a diverse panel of speakers formally trained to speak on LGBTQ issues for the MSU campus community. Students chosen for this dynamic team will have the opportunity to educate fellow students, as well as faculty, staff, and other members of our campus community on LGBTQ issues thereby creating a campus environment inclusive and supportive of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
Using their personal stories and experiences, our Lavender Leaders will educate the MSU community of some of the issues facing LGBTQ people in today's world. Lavender Leaders will provide valuable information on campus resources for LGBTQA persons and will be perfect for MSU's residence halls, academic classrooms, leadership trainings, sports teams, religious organizations, Greek organizations, student groups and other campus communities. Looking ahead, Lavender Leaders will also have the opportunity to facilitate programs such as diversity workshops and sensitivity trainings, and possibly Safe Space sessions.
