For the second year in a row, a 5,000 meter run will be held on the grounds of the Montclair Art Museum in memory of Doug M. Williams '85, a graduate of the School of Business.
The event will take place on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 8:30 a.m.
Last year, close to 300 runners turned out to run in honor of
Doug, a lifelong resident of Montclair and avid member of The Essex
Running Club. These efforts raised $15,000 to establish a
Scolarship in Doug’s name at Montclair State University's School of Business. The first
Scholarship was awarded to Bridget
Uribe, who will use the Scholarship to complete the new, five
year joint BS/MS Accounting degree, offered at Montclair State for
the first time this coming fall.
Doug Williams was tragically struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident while walking home on October 9, 2011. He was only 49 years old. Williams was a life-long figure in the Montclair community. He graduated from Montclair High School and went on to study business at Montclair State University, after which he began a 25-year career at Milliman, Inc.
Williams was a passionate runner. He participated in organized runs throughout the country, including six full-length marathons. His friends and fellow runners have organized the run as a way to honor him and keep his memory alive through philanthropy. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Doug M. Williams 5000m Memorial Run Scholarship Fund, which help local students study business at Montclair State University.
The Scholarship was created with the Montclair State University Foundation. For more information, visit montclair.edu/giving. For more information about the race, call Dan Murphy, co-coordinator of the race event at 973-809-9311 or email@example.com.
