Loyal Donors Recognized at Homecoming Celebration
President Susan A. Cole and John Shannon, Vice President of University Advancement, expressed their sincere appreciation to the group. SBUS student Patrycja Sepelowski provided a personal reflection of her Montclair State experience. “Montclair State helped me to accomplish one of the most important goals in my life, which was finding the right career path,” says Patrycja, who came to the U.S. from a small town in Poland six years ago to work as an au pair. Eager to learn and a hard worker, she took English as a Second Language classes and studied at Mercer County Community College, earning her associate’s degree. An accounting major at Montclair State, Patrycja received the 2013 Irene Douma Accounting Scholarship. She also was selected to participate in the prestigious and competitive Deloitte and Touche summer 2013 internship program, and was offered a full-time job as an auditor with the company after graduation.
Six other students — Robert Barrows (chemistry major), Amanda M. Beodeker (English major), George Curtis Clark (Italian major with English as a Second Language certification), Dana Michele Hemes (Master of Fine Arts program), Andrés Lara (French and linguistics double major) and Chioma Corrinne Ossa (music education major) — also attended the reception and mingled with the guests, serving as outstanding and enthusiastic representatives of the University. In addition, the attendees were treated to a special guided tour of the George Segal Gallery's exhibit, “Triumph of Philippine Art,” which focuses on contemporary Filipino and Filipino-American art.
“It was a wonderful day and we enjoyed the reception,” said Patricia O'Connor Babb '55 '58 MA, who attended with her husband, Robert Babb '54 '60 MA. “We will definitely return next year!”
