Coming Home to Celebrate

Alumni athletes returned to campus in October for celebrations!

The Athletic Department and the Office of Alumni Relations welcomed multiple groups of alumni athletes back to campus to celebrate during the month of October.

Homecoming was on October 12. It was a crisp, clean fall day the perfect weather for a return to campus. Members of the Athletic Hall of Fame met in the Peter Altieri Hall of Fame Room in the Panzer Athletic Center for a reception in their honor. During the Homecoming football game against SUNY-Cortland, the Hall of Fame alumni were honored on the field during halftime and they were able to enjoy the game from the VIP End Zone tent. Swimming and Diving alumni held their traditional Swim/Dive meet, where alumni and their families reconnected and enjoyed a barbeque lunch.

October 19 was the celebration date for the 2003 Field Hockey Team. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of their appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2003, team members enjoyed cheering the current team on to victory over William Smith College. Following the game, a luncheon and recognition ceremony was held in the Peter Altieri Hall of Fame Room in the Panzer Athletic Center.

October 26 also provided great weather for a reunion on campus and marked a wonderful event for members of all the women’s fencing teams from 1950 to the 1980s. The planning committee, led by Dr. Domenica "Desi" Desiderioscioli, Associate Professor and former Fencing Coach, was thrilled to see so many fencing alumnae return to campus for this long overdue reunion. Committee members working with Dr. Desi were Bonnie Levine Farbstein ’71, Mary Caprio Riley ’74, and Cathy Kopp Taylor ’54 ’58 MA.
