Geoscientist and assistant professor Sandra Passchier reports from the field

Dr. Sandra Passchier of Montclair State University's Department of Earth and Environmental Studies is currently on a 2-month field season in Antarctica as part of the science team of the Antarctic Drilling Program. Dr. Passchier reports in regularly through a blog from the U.S. McMurdo Station, Antarctica's largest "city" with more than 1,000 people there at any one time during the "summer" research season from October into February. The station is on Ross Island, about 2,500 miles south of Christchurch, New Zealand, where the current average temperature is 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
