Linens ’n Things Partners with Montclair State for Commercial Shoot

Roman Karpa

Montclair State University and the home furnishings retailer Linens ’n Things has had an informal partnership for a number of years. To School of Business graduate Roman Karpa ’00, one of the over 30 Montclair State graduates who are currently working at the company’s corporate headquarters, it seems a perfectly natural relationship. So when it came time to find a location for their “back to school” product commercial, he turned to his alma mater for assistance.

After contacting the Center for Career Services and Community-based Learning, Karpa, a senior advertising analyst for the Clifton-based retailer, came back to campus and chose Alice Paul Hall at the Village in Little Falls as the best location.

Karpa, who is directly involved in the creation of print, online and on-the-air advertising, organized the shoot in late June with the assistance of the Residence Life and Communications and Marketing offices. A typical room was given a home furnishings makeover and was decorated with all the latest fashions, furniture and accessories—including a Montclair State pennant.

Production went well and the commercial—complete with glimpses of the Montclair State campus—aired nationally later in the summer. Karpa was pleased with the project and happy to be able to include Montclair State in it. “Being able to tape part of a commercial for Linens ’n Things at Montclair State University was a cool way to give something back to the school for the great education I received while attending there.”
