The MSU campus will close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2007 and reopen on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.
The following conditions and exceptions apply:
Residence Halls, Dining Services, and the Health Center
- The main information booth, University Police, The Village at Little Falls, Clove Road Apartments, and Russ Hall (resident rooms only) will be open and staffed during the entire period, but qualified student residents remaining on campus must make prior arrangements with their respective community director.
- All residence halls (except as noted above) will close at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 21, and reopen at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20.
- The University Health Center will close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 21. After it reopens on January 2, its hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday until regular hours resume on Tuesday, January 22.
- The Red Hawk Diner will close at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20 and at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21. The Diner will be closed from December 22 through January 1, and will reopen on January 2 at 7:00 a.m. The Diner will then follow a schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Diner will close at 12 midnight on Sunday, January 20 and resume 24-hour operations at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 21.
- Blanton and Freeman Dining Halls will close after an extended breakfast/brunch on Friday, December 21 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Blanton and Freeman Dining Halls will open for dinner on Sunday, January 20.
- Hours of operation for all food service locations are posted at each unit and displayed on the Montclair State website.
Recreation Facilities and the Student Center
- Panzer facilities will close for winter break at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 20. The pool and gymnasium will be open, however, for scheduled athletic team practices and events. General recreation hours for the Panzer Fitness Center, pool, and gymnasium will begin again for the spring semester on the evening of Sunday, January 20.
- The Student Center and Student Center Annex will close on Friday, December 21 at 4:30 p.m. and reopen on Wednesday, January 2.
Sprague Library, Computer Centers, and Information Technology Services
- Sprague Library will close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 21. It will reopen the following week only on Thursday, December 27 and Friday, December 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and return to regular operations on Wednesday, January 2 at 8:30 a.m. While open, all resources and services will be available to the University community and the general public. Access to the Library’s electronic resources and online catalog will be available at all times via the Library’s website (http://library.montclair.edu).
- The Technology Solutions Center on the fifth floor of University Hall will close, but Center staff will monitor and answer voice-mail messages left at the University Help Desk (ext. 7971) except on the following dates: December 24, December 25, December 31, and January 1.
- The Public Computing Laboratory
facilities will be available as follows:
- The Information Commons Computing Laboratory and Technology Solutions Center will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday for the period of January 2 through January 18. They will be closed on Monday, January 21, but return to regular operations on Tuesday, January 22.
- Access will be available to e-mail, Internet, and administrative computer systems, including HRS, FRS, SIS, WESS, Raiser’s Edge, and Blackboard. There will be intermittent, 15- to 20-minute service interruptions on certain IT systems as well as the campus network for hardware and software maintenance as needed. Any planned or unplanned service interruptions will be posted simultaneously to the Montclair State home page under “News and Events” and the OIT Systems Status web log at: http://blogs.montclair.edu/systems.
- A Blackboard upgrade that will require approximately 72 hours of service interruption has been tentatively scheduled for the period of January 2 through January 4. A confirmation of this scheduled interruption of service will be distributed when the University has finalized the project with Blackboard.
General Access to the Campus
To maintain the security of the campus during the winter closing, employees may have access to their offices only in the unusual circumstance that they have been requested by their supervisor to perform a specific job duty during that period or, in the case of faculty, to pursue ongoing research or other faculty responsibilities. The employee or a dean must inform University Police via email@example.com as soon as the need to be on campus is known, specifying the purpose, date(s), and time(s) that access is required. Upon arrival, the employee must sign in and out at the University Police building.
The names of students who are engaged in research that requires their presence during the winter closing must be submitted in advance to University Police via firstname.lastname@example.org by a faculty mentor or dean. The submission must indicate that no safety hazards are posed by the student’s presence in the laboratory and/or office. Upon arrival, the student must sign in and out at the University Police building. Students may also have access to buildings if they are accompanied by a faculty member or administrator who has followed the procedures described above. Anyone not authorized to be in a building during this period will be escorted from the building. All employees and students must have a key and/or the access code to gain entry to the specific room requested. University Police will be responsible for opening the exterior door of the building as needed.
Please note that most building temperatures will be lowered to 65° to 68° to conserve energy.
