This year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service was bigger than ever with students, staff, faculty, alumni, youth groups, Americorps members, families, and community members from New York and New Jersey - more than 350 in attendance!

MSU’s Bonner Leaders worked tirelessly on set up and clean up, and expertly led the 11 on- and off-campus service projects.  Go Bonners!

The day started off with a delicious breakfast, donated by MSU’s Office of Residence Life and Dining Services. Thank you for fueling us!

MSU’s own Dr. Sandra Lewis, Director of the African American Studies program, spoke eloquently of carrying on Dr. King's legacy through social justice.

Chairman Lawrence Hamm at MSU's MLK Day

Larry Hamm, Chairman of the People’s Organization for Progress, inspired us with stories of meeting Dr. King and experiences from his 40+ years of political activism.

At MedShare, volunteers sorted and packaged lifesaving medical supplies to be shipped to underserved populations throughout the world.

Approximately 100 volunteers canvassed neighborhoods with the Montclair Fire Department, providing valuable fire safety information and fire prevention resources.

Volunteers wrote personal messages of gratitude and hope for US soldiers overseas, completing 800 cards donated by Designer Greetings, Up With Paper, Abbey Press, and Blue Mountain Arts.

ACME of Montclair offered a bulk donation of high need items to benefit our Red Hawk Pantry, and volunteers collected additional donations outside of Kings Supermarkets of Montclair and Verona.

Volunteers made over 900 sandwiches for local soup kitchens, Eva’s Village and Toni’s Kitchen. Supplies were donated by Fairway of Woodland Park, ShopRite of Little Falls, Chartwells, MSU Dining Services, and Rockland Bakery.
