Carlos Ortiz, assistant dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is exhibiting a series of his paintings at the Grady Alexis Gallery of El Taller Latino Americano at Broadway and 104th Street in Manhattan. The exhibition, titled “Dancin,” features paintings exploring the themes of family, cultural heritage and community.
Ortiz, who has been painting and showing his work for many
years, says the title of this exhibition comes from a mural he created for the
show. The mural, also titled “Dancin,” shows overlapping images of faces, hands
and dancing figures, and radiates a positive energy and sense of rhythm. “I
selected ‘Dancin’ as the general title
for the work I do because it involves a lot of physicality and movement and
spontaneity of movement,” he says.
“Dancin” will be on view at the gallery until February 23.
