Glassboro, NJ (1/26/08) – The Montclair State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were beaten by Rowan University in a dual meet at the Esby Pool on Saturday afternoon. The men suffered a 143-98 loss while the women's squad fell 133-98 to the Profs.
The MSU men are now 5-6 on the season while the women fell to 4-6 in dual meet action.
Freshman Galina Loutchouk (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) won three events as she set a new school record in the 1000 freestyle, breaking a near 24-year-old mark. Loutchouk posted a time of 11:08.52 in the event smashing Doris Weder's mark of 11:14.00 set against Fordham on February 3, 1984. It was the third record that Loutchouk set this season as she also established new marks in the 1650 freestyle and 400 individual medley.
Loutchouk then came back to win the 500 freestyle clocking in at 5:28.57 and addeda third victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.53.
Brittany Cole (Linden, NJ/Linden) came in first in the 50 freestyle as she recorded a personal-best 25.28 in the event and also placed third in the 100 backstroke with another season-best time of 1:06.76.
Laura Flynn (Andover, NJ/Lenape Valley) took second in the 100 butterfly (1:07.22) followed by Tracey Keelan (Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) third (1:10.54). Kristine Bates (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) was second in the 100 freestyle (56.13). Tracey Groel (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.05).
For the MSU men, John Adams (Wharton, NJ/Pope John XXIII) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.80, a personal-best for him this season. Ricky Miller (sr. Seaside Park, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.04). Blaise Lacca (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) took second in the 100 free. Lacca swam 50.30 to post a season-best time.
The MSU men will return to action on Wednesday, January 30 as the Red Hawks travel to Poughkeepsie, NY to face Vassar College in a 6:00 pm meet..
