Montclair, NJ (2/26/08) – Freshman Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. It is the second time this season that Brown has been chosen for the accolade.
Brown was chosen as the Outstanding Male Track Athlete as he helped MSU to a fourth-place finish at the NJAC Indoor Championships held on Monday. Brown won the 55 meter hurdles with an NCAA automatic qualifying time.
Brown became the second straight male from MSU to win the Outstanding Track Athlete Award as he blazed to the victory in the 55 meter hurdles. Already on the NCAA provisional list, Brown ran a 7.64 during the preliminaries to place his name on the list again. However, he went one step better in the finals posting a time of 7.54, .01 better than the automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Division III Championships which will be held at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio on March 14-15.
Brown, who also finished 1 th in the 200 meters (23.67) later helped the men’s 4x200 and 4x400 relay squads to Top 4 finishes. In the 4x200 relay, the team of Brown, Sulton Scott ( Hillside, NJ / Hillside), Ricardo Thomas ( Teaneck, NJ / Teaneck) and Akeem Thomas ( Pennsauken, NJ / Pennsauken) placed fourth with a time of 1:34.53. Akeem Thomas and Brown were joined by Andrew Nnadi ( West Orange, NJ / West Orange) and Terry Iavarone ( North Arlington, NJ / North Arlington) for a fourth-place showing in the 4x400 as the quartet clocked in at 3:28.19.
