Hersch offers a full-evening suite, Dedications: Suite For Trio, a piece that focuses on tonal color, diverse rhythms and the exciting interplay that happens when stimulating new compositions are played by three world-class musicians. Dedications: Suite For Trio contains pieces dedicated to a wide range of individuals, including Brazilian composers Antonio Carlos Jobim and Egberto Gisomonti, jazz musicians Ornette Coleman, Jim Hall, George Shearing and Jimmy Rowles, ballerina Suzanne Farrell, Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh and others who have enriched Fred Hersch’s life. Each piece is written in a different key that Hersch associates with the character of each person. This World Premiere happens on Saturday, May 3rd in the acoustic splendor of the Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University. Fred Hersch is at the piano and is joined onstage by Joe Martin on bass and Richie Barshay on drums.

Pianist and composer Fred Hersch has earned his place among the foremost jazz artists and creative musicians in the world today. Widely recognized for his ability to steadfastly create a unique body of work while reinventing standard jazz repertoire, he has infused time-tested classics with his keen insight, fresh ideas and superb technique. Finding his comfort zone in a trio setting, he has recorded seven trio albums that have left the critics raving, three of which have earned him Grammy nominations.
