More than 100 musical performances will enliven the Montclair State University campus this year, ranging from visits by internationally known guest artists and recitals by MSU faculty to concerts and degree recitals by student ensembles and both undergraduate and graduate students.
The wide range of musical offerings not only provides entertainment to the campus and surrounding communities but also serves as the training ground for tomorrow's professional musicians. The Music Department's philosophy places a strong emphasis on a wide variety of music, performed live, as an essential part of a complete musical education In addition to training performers, the Department develops informed audiences as part of its mission.
Music requires more one-to-one student-teacher study than almost any other discipline, and MSU students are fortunate to benefit from a faculty that boasts some of the finest musicians in the country, if not the world. Internationally known faculty members include Mary Ann Craig, Jeffrey Gall, Erik Lawrence, Mark Pakman, Harvey Pittel, Oscar Ravina, Ruth Rendleman, David Singer and David Witten.
