Oshkosh, WI (5/23/08) – Freshman athletes Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra) is peaking at the right time. After moving up the provisional qyalifying list last week, Brown posted an even better time on Friday as he moved into the final of the 110 hurdles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Brown registered the second-best qualifying time in the event as he ran a time of 14.28 during the preliminaries. The time easily put Brown into Saturday's finals which are set to be run at 1:55 pm.
Brown, the NJAC Outstanding Athlete of the Year, provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships as he ran a time of 14.82 at the CTC Championships and then registered a time of 14.58 as he claimed the same event at the NJAC Championships. That time put Brown seventh nationally at the time, however that standing immediately went up last week as he clocked in at 14.44 in the IC4A Championships held at Princeton University.
In Friday's preliminaries, Brown won hs heat as he beat Matt Cruse of Bethany (WV) by .21 seconds. The time would be matched by Shawn Olorundami of Buena Vista and bettered by Greenville College's Jarod Renford (14.22), however, both of those times came under wind-aided conditions.
Brown also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in March in the 55 meter hurdles, but missed reaching the finals by .08 seconds.
Brown will not be the only Red Hawks competing on Saturday. Monique Riddck (Edison, NJ / Bishop Ahr) and Eugene Asimou (Livingston, NJ / Livingston) will both compete in the shot put. Riddick will be looking to add an outdoor title to go along with her indoor championship while Asimou competes in his second straight NCAA outdoor meet.
