Women's Soccer Tripped Up by Lynchburg in Haverford Classic

Haverford, PA (8/30/08) –Junior forward Liza Offreda (east Rutherford, NJ /Midland Park) scored once and added an assist, however the Montclair State women's soccer team was tripped by Lynchburg College, 3-2 in the opening round of the Haverford Kickoff Classic on Saturday.

The loss sends Montclair State into the consolation game on Sunday where they will face Arcadia at 3:30 pm. Last year, Montclair fell to Arcadia 3-2 in the consolation contest.

Lynchburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 28 minutes of the game as Joanie Snyder gave the Hornets a one-goal advantage at the 12:56 mark of the game. Betsy Kwiatkowski made the score 2-0 with s goal at 28:05, but Montclair would cut the deficit in half by intermission as Offreda fed Jackie McGrath (Vernon, NJ / Vernon) for the latter's first career goal.

Lynchburg would push the lead back to two on a Brittany Klippstein goal 13:22 into the period. Offreda brought the Red Hawks back within 3-2 as she beat keeper Anna Wright. Freshman Rachel Senyszyn (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) registered the assist. MSU would get one more shot in the closing minutes, however it could not come up with the equalizer as they fell to the Hornets in the season opener for the fourth straight season.

Junior goalkeeper Leah Tepperman (North Andover, MA / North Andover) made eight saves in goal for the Red Hawks, who were outshot in the contest, 22-11.
