Volleyball Sweeps Past Centenary

Hackettstown, NJ (9/2/08) – Sophomore outside hitter Devon Jonhston (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) collected 13 kills and eight digs as Montclair State swept past Centenary College in straight sets on Tuesday evening.

MSU downed the Cyclones 25-13, 25-10, 25-22 to move to 3-2 on the season. The Red Hawks moved to 7-0 all-time against Centenary with the win.

Montclair posted a .309 hitting percentage in the match as it received nine kills apiece from junior middle blockers Kara Burnham (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) and Anna Chesnakova (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick). Chesnakova also tallied four total blocks, including three solo.

Junior setter Raisa Silva (Newark, NJ / East Side) had 31 assists and four services with Meghan Stevens (Woodcliffe Lake, NJ / Pascack Hills) adding four aces and four digs. Junior Karen Martin (Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Township) had five kills and five digs.

Montclair State is now off until Wednesday, September 10 when they travel to New York City to face City College of NY at 6:00 pm. It will be the first meeting between the teams since 2005 when Montclair recorded a straight set victory.
