York, PA (9/20/08) – Sophomore Devon Johnston (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) collected 22 kills, six aces and 22 digs as Montclair State finished in fifth place at the Best Western Westgate Invitational held at York College on Saturday.

The Red Hawks (8-5) fell to DeSales 3-0 in pool play in the morning before downing Arcadia by the same 3-0 score in the fifth-place contest.

Johnston had 12 kills and 15 digs in the loss to DeSales as the Bulldogs posted a 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 victory. Junior Anna Chesnakova ( East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) had eight kills and five total blocks while Karen Martin ( Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Township) added seven kills and seven digs. Setter Raisa Silva ( Newark, NJ / East Side) had 25 assists and 10 digs while Meghan Stevens ( Woodcliffe Lake, NJ / Pascack Hills) had three services aces and 12 digs.

The Red Hawks would bounce back with a 25-16, 25-10, 25-21 win versus Arcadia. Johnston recorded 10 kills, five aces and seven digs with Chesnakova, Martin and Kara Burnham ( Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) each adding seven kills. Stevens had 10 digs and two aces and Silva had 31 assists and 10 digs. Martin had three service aces as did junior Christine Toskovich ( Garfield, NJ / Garfield).

Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, September 23 as the Red Hawks travel to Union, NJ to face Kean University in a 7:00 pm matchup at Harwood Arena.
