Montclair, NJ (9/29/08) – Freshman forward Rodrigo Santiago (Wharton, NJ / Morris Hills) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. Santiago helped the fifth-ranked Red Hawks to a pair of conference wins as MSU raised its record to 10-0-0 this season.
Santiago earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors after contributing to a pair of NJAC victories for the Red Hawks. In the first start of his collegiate career, he set-up the game-winning goal by drawing a foul which led to a penalty kick in MSU’s 3-0 road win at Rutgers-Newark. Three days later, he tallied a goal and an assist for three points as the Red Hawks’ extended their winning-streak to 10 matches with a 3-1 NJAC win over TCNJ.Santiago currently ranks tied for third in the NJAC in assists with five on the season.
