Volleyball Places Three on All-NJAC Team

Montclair, NJ (11/7/08) Sophomore Devon Johnston (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) was named to the First Team while juniors Karen Martin (Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Township) and Kara Burnham (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) were chosen Second Team and Honorable Mention, respectively as Montclair State put three players on the 2008 NJAC All-Conference Team.

The three players helped Montclair State to a second-place finish in the NJAC during the regular-season. The Red Hawks posted a 16-15 mark, 6-2 in the conference and earned the No. 2 seed in the NJAC Tournament.

Johnston, last season's Rookie of the Year, picked up her first All-NJAC honor as she led the Red Hawks in kills (300), hitting efficiency (.251) and points (367.5). She was also second in digs with 290 and collected eight double-doubles, including a season-high 22 kills in Montclair's 3-1 victory over William Paterson on October 14. Johnston also had 46 service aces and 38 blocks.

Martin too earned her first All-NJAC award. Appearing in every set of every match this year, Martin was had 219 kills and was second on the team in service aces with 52 while also registering 218 digs and 30 total blocks. She had nine matches of 10 or more kills, including a season-high 12 in he opening match against Fredonia at the Red Dragon Classic held at Cortland.

Burnham received her second All-NJAC accolade. Burnham missed three matches due to injury, but still recorded 211 kills and a .217 hitting percentage. She also had 21 service aces and 65 blocks which was second on the team.
