Field Hockey Places Three on All-NJAC Team

Montclair, NJ (11/11/08) – Junior midfielder Megan Walsh (Lumberton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) and senior Jenna Gallo (Voorhees, NJ / Eastern) were each named to the First Team while junior midfielder Melissa Buttray (Lincoln Park, NJ / Boonton) was chosen Honorable Mention as Montclair State put three players on the NJAC All-Conference Field Hockey Team released on Tuesday.

The three players helped Montclair State to an 11-7 campaign.

Walsh led the Red Hawks in scoring as she tallied 20 points on seven goals and a team-best six assists. Second on the team in goals, Walsh had three game-winning tallies and also added two defensive saves. She scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in the season opener at Widener and registered assists on both Montclair State scores in a 2-1 win at Muhlenberg on September 13. Walsh would score once against Susquehanna and then snapped MSU's six-game losing streak with the lone goal in a 1-0 win at 15th-ranked Stevens on October 30. Two days later, Walsh notched two second-half goals in a 3-2 loss to 12th-ranked Cortland. She wrapped up her season with an assist in MSU's 6-1 victory against Richard Stockton.

Gallo earns her first All-Conference honor as she led the team in defensive saves with four. An alternate for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior All-Star Game, scored once during the season as she tallied Montclair's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Rowan.

Buttray collects her second All-NJAC accolade as she was named Honorable Mention in 2006 while a member of The College of New Jersey. Buttray appeared and started all 18 games and contributed a goal and assist. She assisted on Walsh's game-winning goal versus Stevens and then added her own score in the season finale against Richard Stockton.
