Montclair State University President Dr. Susan A. Cole is accompanying New Jersey Gov. Christie Whitman on her trade and investment mission to South America, March 13-23.
Dr. Cole joins 100 business leaders from throughout the state in participating in New Jersey's largest trade mission ever to Brazil, Argentina and Chile. The businesses represent small to mid-sized corporations and Fortune 500 companies. Gil Medina, secretary of the Commerce and Economic Growth Commission, and Bob Shinn, commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection, will also be on the trip. Members of the trade delegation will participate in a series of meetings with South American business and government leaders to discuss trade and investment opportunities.
Dr. Cole noted that Montclair State -- New Jersey's second largest university -- is vitally interested in expanding its international relationships.
"Montclair State is advancing its global education program by developing additional opportunities for faculty and student exchanges, visiting professorships, institutional research and study abroad," Dr. Cole said. "For that reason, I will be meeting with representatives of three of the leading universities in the region: Universidad de Belgrano and Universidad Nacional de San Juan in Argentina and Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. These contacts will be invaluable in furthering our global education vision for Montclair State."
Dr. Cole said that another of her goals is to heighten the University's profile and presence in the rapidly growing region.
