Men's Basketball Drops Consolation Game in Monarch Classic

Wilkes-Barre , PA (11/16/08) – The Montclair State men’s basketball team fell to 0-2 on the season as the Red Hawks lost to New York City Tech in the consolation game of the Ramada Inn / Monarch Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Ken Dudley (Willingboro, NJ / Burlington Tech) finished with 10 points and six rebounds for MSU, which shot just 29 percent in the game (16-of-54), including 5-of-26 from behind the arc.

Junior John Byrne (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) connected on one of those three pointers to give MSU a 20-17 lead with 4:43 to go in the first half before Tech finished off the half with a 14-1 run to take a 31-21 lead at the break.

In the second half, Montclair chipped away at the deficit and got within two at 38-36 as Jon Georges ( West Orange, NJ / St. Peter’s Prep) sank a short jumper. However, Tech would respond with another key run, this one a 9-0 spurt to take a 47-36 lead with 6:27 to play.

Junior Daniel McRae ( Orange, NJ / Newark Tech) had five points and nine rebounds for the Red Hawks while sophomore James Williams ( Englewood, NJ / Dwight Morrow) chipped in with seven points and four rebounds. Sean Young ( Scotch Plains, NJ / SP-Fanwood) collected seven points and six rebounds.

The Red Hawks are now off until Friday, November 21 as they face Farmingdale State in the opening round of the Wyndham Reading Classic at Albright College. Tip off is slated for 6:00 pm.
