McRae Named NJAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Montclair, NJ (1/5/09) – Junior forward Daniel McRae (Orange, NJ / Newark Tech) was named the NJAC Player of the Week on Monday.

McRae becomes the second different Red Hawk to earn NJAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after averaging a double-double 16.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in a pair of MSU victories during the ECAC Holiday Festival in Orlando, FL.

The victories stretched Montclair's current winning streak to nine, its longest since opening the 2002-03 campaign with 12 consecutive wins.

McRae opened the tournament by registering a double-double 12 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and four steals in Montclair State’s 75-66 win over Potsdam State. He wrapped up the trip by posting a season-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, while notching 11 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in MSU’s ninth consecutive victory, a 70-64 overtime win over St. Joseph’s-Patchogue for the “B” bracket championship.

McRae, who earned tournament Most Valuable Player honors for his play in the two contests, currently ranks third in the NJAC in rebounding with an average of 7.8 boards per game.

McRae was also named the MVP of the Messiah / Hampton Inn Classic in December and has recorded three consecutive double-doubles.
