What I Wanna See / Feb. 6-8
The
Department of Theatre and Dance, in conjunction with the Cali School of Music,
kicks off 2009 with See What I Wanna See, an exciting musical premiering
at McEachern Recital Hall February 6-8, 2009. Michael John LaChiusa’s
intelligent and entertaining show is a powerhouse of a musical. Directed by
Aaron Jodoin, this musical race through jazz, classical, Tin Pan Alley and show
tunes will leave audiences breathless.

In The Timing / Feb. 17-22
All In The Timing, a collection of one-act plays by David Ives will be
presented February 17-22 at the L. Howard Fox Theatre. Jim Ligon directs
this collection of fast-paced, clever and wickedly funny mini-performances
which Time Magazine called “theatre that aerobicizes the brain and tickles the
heart.”
Dance Collage /
March 4-8
From March 4-8, The Department of Theatre and Dance presents DANCE COLLAGE,
all new works by University students and faculty members, drawing from the
modern, ballet, jazz and hip-hop idioms.
Homburg /
March 10-14
HOMBURG,
conceived and directed by Jorge Cachiero from German romantic writer Heinrich
von Kleist’s life story, personal letters and play “The Prince of Homburg,”
will have it’s world premiere in the Alexander Kasser Theater from March 10-14.
HOMBURG is a performance work that speaks about the epic struggle
between an individual’s will and society’s expectations.
The
Meadowlands Project / April 1-5
April
1-5 will bring yet another exciting original theatrical premiere, The
Meadowlands Project. Directed by Debbie Saivetz, created by Rogelio
Martinez in collaboration with the student cast, this piece is an exploration
of the long and colorful history of The Meadowlands – New Jersey’s fabled
playland and wasteland.
Danceworks
2009 / April 15-19
Danceworks 2009, a
showcase for dance under the direction of Artistic Director Lori Katterhenry,
returns April 15-19 in the Alexander Kasser Theatre, with a diverse program of
dance, including work by three time Bessie Award-winning choreographer and
McArthur Fellow Susan Marshall, as well as Mary O’Donnell’s Pursuit of
Happiness, created to celebrate the country’s Bicentennial in 1976.
Four
Short Musicals / April 30 - May 6
The
season concludes with Four Short Musicals, an evening of four unique new
short musicals by some of the most talented musical theatre authors at work
today including Kirsten Childs and Tony Award-winner Rachel Sheinkin. This
concert performance will run from April 30 through May 6 in the L. Howard Fox
Theatre, under the direction of Scott Davenport Richards, with musical
direction by Aaron Jodoin featuring costumes by Debra Otte. The production is
presented in conjunction with the John J. Cali School of Music.
All Montclair State University Department of Theatre and Dance events are
