Brown Leads Impressive Performances for Track and Field

Montclair, NJ (2/8/09) – The Montclair State indoor track and field teams put together a handful of impressive performances this past weekend as the Red Hawks took part in both the New Balance Invitational at The Armory in New York, NY and DeSchriver Invitational held at East Stroudsburg University.

Sophomore Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra) fashioned the top performance of the weekend at the New Balance Invitational as he placed fifth in the 60 meter hurdles among the 83 competitors comprised of mostly Division I competitors in the event. Brown clocked in at 8.14 during the preliminaries and the posted a time of 8:05 in the consolation finals. His time would be converted to the 55 hurdles which comes out to a 7.51, now the second-fastest time in Division III. Brown is headed to the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in March in Terra Haute, Indiana.

Also at the New Balance Invitational, Katherine Tallaj (Paramus, NJ / Immaculate Heart) also registered a solid time in the 60 hurdles as she ran 9.59 in the event. Sophomore Monique Riddick ( Edison, NJ / Bishop Ahr) placed second in her flight (13.60 meters) and Damier Johnson ( Long Branch, NJ / Long Branch) clocked in at 6.97 in the 60 meters. Eric Gershey (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills) had a time of 54.79 in the 400 meters with Adenford Jean-Philippe (Irvington, NJ / Irvington) timing in at 8.54 in the 60 hurdles.

The following day, MSU competed at the DeSchriver Invitational. Tallaj had another solid day as she placed both fourth in the 55 hurdles (9.03) and the triple jump (10.62 meters). Freshman Epiphany Sams ( Englewood, NJ / Paramus Catholic) placed third in the 55 meters at 7.59 after running 7.56 during the preliminaries.

Anna Gleason ( Butler, NJ / Butler) was seventh in the high jump (1.49 meters) and Terry Iavarone ( North Arlington, NJ / North Arlington) broke the two-minute mark in the 800 meters as he posted a time of 1:58.87.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 14 as they take part in the CTC Indoor Championships which will be held at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
