Both teams placed seventh overall among the field of Division I, II and III institutions in the standings as the MSU women totaled 645 points. However the Red Hawks were second among all Division III schools with 904 points finishing behind overall winner The College of New Jersey. On the men's side, Montclair collected 457 points in the overall team standings, but was fourth among the Division III squads with 534 points.
Spadoni is now the holder of both breaststroke records at Montclair State as she finished fifth in the 200 event on Sunday. A day after setting the mark in the 100 breaststroke, Spadoni swam 2:26.11, breaking Gail Meneghin’s standard 2:26.26 set during the 1985 NCAA Division III Championships. The mark was good enough again for an NCAA "B" cut giving her perhaps a second opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota March 18-21.
Loutchouk set her third record in as many days as she shattered her own record in the 1650 freestyle. She placed seventh in the event as she registered a time of 18:36.31, breaking her previous best by nearly seven seconds. Loutchouk swam 18:43.10 in last year’s Metropolitan Championships.
In all, the Red Hawks set the seven new school records during this year’s championships, five of which had stood for nearly a quarter-century.
Elsewhere for the MSU women, freshman Lauren Uckar ( Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) placed 14 th in the 200 backstroke as she posted a time of 2:20.60. Senior Raquel Erwin ( Ridgewood, NJ / Ridgewood) had the same placing in the 100 freestyle (54.31) with Laura Flynn ( Andover, NJ / Lenape Valley) finishing 11 th in the 200 butterfly (2:19.95). Freshman Jacklyn Beck ( West Milford, NJ / West Milford) was seventh in the one-meter diving event (282.25) and the 400 freestyle relay team placed sixth with a time of 3:44.61.For the Montclair State men, freshman Brian Iacono (Cape May Courthouse, NJ / Middle Township) was 14 th in the 1650 freestyle (18:03.85). Senior John Adams ( Wharton, NJ / Pope John XXIII) was 13 th in the 200 backstroke (2:00.73) while senior Jon Kurtz ( Stockholm, NJ / Vernon Township) also placed 13 th in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.11). The men’s 400 freestyle relay team placed seventh clocking in at 3:17.49.
