Montclair, NJ (4/27/09) - Senior lefthander Kelly Karp (Edison, NJ / Edison)
was named the Pitcher of the Week by the New Jersey Athletic Conference
on Monday. Karp is the second Red Hawk to receive a weekly honor from
the league.
Karp earns NJAC Pitcher of the Week honors after going 2-1 with a 0.84 earned run average in 25.0
innings pitched during the course of four appearances.
She opened the week by allowing just one unearned run while striking
out eight in a 3-1 non-conference win over Baruch. Two days later, she
scattered five hits in eight innings of work while striking out seven
in a 6-4 eight-inning NJAC loss to Rutgers-Camden. She then tossed a
two-hit complete-game shutout for a 2-0 NJAC road win at NJCU which
clinched a berth in the NJAC Tournament for MSU. She wrapped up the
regular season
by allowing just one unearned run in 4.0 innings of relief while not figuring in the decision during a 3-
2 loss to NJCU.
Karp currently leads the NJAC in strikeouts with 143 on the season.
