Offreda, a three-year member of the Red Hawks is one of 16 players representing the United State in the 21st Summer Deaflympics
in Taipei, Taiwan on September 5-15. The U.S. Deaf Sports Federation
(USADSF) announced it final roster in April and consists of 144
athletes (64 females and 80 males) and 54 team officials (five
different categories: coach/assistant coach, delegate, interpreter,
medical, leader/director/manager).
Offreda and
her USA team open competition in Pool play on Saturday, September 5 at
9:30 am local time against Germany. The American squad is in Group A
along with Denmark. Thailand, Russia. Japan and Great Britain are in
Group B. The team will play with its group before the playoff round
commences on Friday, September 11. The championship is slated for
Monday, September 14.
The appearance by Offreda will cause her to miss Montclair's first four
contests however she is expected to rejoin the team shortly before the
Red Hawks' New Jersey Athletic Conference Opener against Rowan at MSU
Soccer Park on September 19.
Offreda came to Montclair State prior to the 2007 campaign and made an
immediate impact helping MSU to the NJAC Championship Game. The team's
fourth-leading scorer that season, Offreda scored five goals and added
two assists while being named All-NJAC Honorable Mention. Last season
Offreda tallied four goals and was third on the team in points scored
as Montclair advanced to the semifinals of both the NJAC and ECAC Metro
Tournaments.
MSU's Offreda to Compete for Team USA in Summer Deaflympics

– The Montclair State women’s soccer team will open its 2009 season on
Friday when the Red Hawks take on Baptist Bible at the Swarthmore Kick
Classic. Senior Liza Offreda (East Rutherford, NJ / Midland Park) will take to the field that day too, however her appearance will be nearly 7,800 miles from her teammates.
