Buttray Named NJAC Field Hockey Defensive POTW

Montclair, NJ (9/14/09) – Senior midfielder Melissa Buttray (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Buttray becomes the second different Red Hawks to earn a weekly honor from the league in as many weeks. Freshman goalkeeper Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) was selected Rookie of the Week on September 7.

Buttray earns NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after contributing at both ends of the field in the Red Hawks’ 1-0 overtime victory over Muhlenberg. In the victory which extended MSU’s winning streak to three games, she was part of a defensive unit that surrendered only two shots in 80 minutes of play. She also helped secure the win by assisting on the game-winning score in overtime.

Buttray is a key part of a MSU defense that currently ranks second in the NJAC in team goals against average (0.92).
