Volleyball Sweeps Past Rowan in NJAC Opener

Glassboro, NJ (9/17/09) – The Montclair State University women’s volleyball team defeated Rowan University, 3-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Thursday night.

The Red Hawks improve to 2-4, while the Profs have a 5-2 record.  It was the conference opener for both teams.  The set scores were 25-14, 25-22 and 25-22.

Middle blocker Kara Burnham (sr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) led Montclair State with 12 kills and seven digs.  Outside hitter Samantha Karpinski (sr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) added nine kills, 11 digs and two blocks.  Setter Michelle Del Valle (so. Teaneck, NJ/Memorial) dished 28 assists.  Outside hitter Karen Martin (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Twp.) posted 10 digs, seven kills and three service aces.

For Rowan, opposite Megan Mondelli (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) and outside hitter Seana Henigan (fr. Newark, DE/Delaware Military Academy) both recorded seven kills.  Libero Casey Roselle (jr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) collected 20 digs, while outside hitter Katie Havlicek (fr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) had 19.  Setter Chrissy McKay (sr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) totaled 13 assists and eight digs.

The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 22 as they continue NJAC play against Kean at the Panzer Athletic Center. Match time is set for 7:00 pm.
