Montclair, NJ (10/5/09) - The Montclair State football and field hockey teams each received honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference on Sunday/Monday as Scott Kubrak (Caldwell, NJ / Cadlwell) was named the Special Teams Player of the Week while goalkeeper Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) was selected as the Rookie of the Week for the second time.
Kubrak played a key role in the Red Hawks’ 24-17 NJAC and Homecoming victory over rival William Paterson. In the win, he averaged 27.5 yards per punt return on two attempts, including a 54-yard touchdown return in the second quarter which staked Montclair to an early 7-0 lead. It was the third punt return for a touchdown by Montclair State this season.Kubrak, who also contributed offensively with two receptions for 49 yards in the victory, currently leads the NJAC in punt return average (13.8).
Bosland earned NJAC Rookie of the Week honors after surrendering just one goal in a 1-1 week of play for the Red Hawks. She opened the week by not allowing a goal in 35 minutes of action during MSU’s 5-0 non-conference road win at Misericordia. She wrapped up the week by collecting seven saves in 100 minutes of play during the Red Hawks’ 2-1 NJAC defeat to TCNJ in penalty strokes.Bosland currently ranks second in the NJAC in both goals against average (0.74) and save percentage (.793).
